Default Tranny Problems, MPG down, New engine time?

Greetings all
I have a 1992 Accord Ex-r (CND)
has almost 230K on her and goin strong.

Just finished sinking money of new rubber Tokico struts suspension etc,
and I think its time for a new engine or tranny.

I love my car and would rather sink some $ into it instead of having a new car payment :P

MY MPG has dropped about 5mpg ( Im hopping its due to my valves needing ajustment)
Lately has been tough getting into first gear without rocking it kinda rough at a stop. if I "Granny drive" it the shifting is smooth, but as soon as there is torque it has resistance into 2nd and somtimes grinds into 3rd and 5th when "punching it".

I have been told its probably the syncro gears and Ill need a new tranny.
I wonder if I should spend the extra $ and just find a 95 JDM h22 with a tranny and plop that in.

Has anyone weighed the labor cost in replacing\rebuilding a tranny vs engine swap??
Immediatly Im goint to get the valves adjusted and tarnny fluid changed and maybee a clutch fluid flush and see how bad teh shifting is. but after all that and im still getting annoyed, time to look for a new engine??

Sigh
