Yes, it will only get worse and worse until it you end up having to park it with the key still in. By the time I had mine replaced, it took about ten minutes of jiggling the shifter to get the key out.

I don't remember. I had it done at the dealer, since I was only 16 at the time and my parents wouldn't let me try to fix it myself (odd, considering I screwed around with that car a lot, but that car was 100% dealer maintained throughout it's ten years in my family.) My father paid for as it as part of a christmas present. h:
