there's not a huge diffrence in speed. it's minimal.

Unless your motherboard already has SATA ports, yes you will need a SATA Controller card.
Unless your power supply has SATA power connectors OR the hard drive you get has standard power connectors, yes, you will need a power adapter (they are cheap though)
