Get your hands in there and learn. Use shop manuals and don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions. Personally, that is what I have been doing--magazines are very useful-I clip out the articles that interest me because they usually have good pictures of the project. Otherwise, you will find that reading these boards is a great way to learn what you need to know.
