You may also have a bad suspension bushing somewhere, and the clunking sound you hear is the the parts of the joint rattling around and smacking into each other. Happens quite a bit on older cars of all makes and models. Replacing the bushings or going urethane will fix it if that's the problem. Hopefully you can do it yourself, though. It's extremely time consuming and therefore expensive to pay someone else to do.
