b18a1 block
hello to all, I have (2) b18a1 blocks. One has outcroppings at the bottom of the cylinder walls, I do not know what year. The other block is smooth the entire cylinder wall and originates from a 1990 Integra LS from Japan.
Does anyone know why the unknown block cylinder walls have these "flanges" at the bottom? Or what year started using them? All other block aspects are similar.
Could the flanges be a safety stopper in case of a broken rod or piston? To prevent broken peices from re-entering the crankshaft arena?? Very interesting. I will be choosing one of the two blocks for a mild .020 bore and build. Just wondering if either block has an inherent advantage. Thanks RFT.
