Just about every engine that starts with a B or a D will fit, some years fit better than others, and picking the donor should revolve around how much work and cost is associated with making the engine fit.

If I can't sell my hatch for $2500 (running), I might swap a turbo Mitsubishi 4g63 into mine. You can make any engine fit in that chassis if you're crazy enough.
