The cable company was walking our neighborhood one time checking for illegal connections. One of the guys came to my door.

Cable Guy: Do you have cable service?
Me: No.
CG: Well I see a cable attached to your house and was just wondering.
Me: I HAD cable internet once, but since it never worked properly, I had the service discontinued. You're free to take down the cable if you like, I don't need it.
CG: Oh, ok. Nah not necessary. Just checking for illegal connections.
