It's 5.15 here. It's not very, hm, effective, since I don't know anyplace that starts their employees out under 5.50. And even if they do, that's for 6 months, and they get bumped over $6 an hour.

My friend works for a car wash/gas station chain here and started out in subway (it's actually in the store there, they have their own franchise of it) at $6.15. With bonuses she makes $8 an hour as a cashier (per hour it's about 7)...and this is working there for 1 year and 8 months, so it isn't as bad as some people would like to say. You just have to be willing to stay in a job for 6 months to make something reasonable.
