hmmm, from what I can tell, you did the right thing....
the mechanic is reputable. He works on everything.
if thats the case, maybe have him look at it more? its kinda hard to diagnos car problems online

how would i go about resetting the ecu? i tried pulling the back-up/ radio 7.5 fuse for ten seconds - the chilton said this resets the pcm (powertrain module) - it that the same thing?
thats correct. You can pull the power wire off the battery, too.... then let the car idle for a few minutes
