Back when I paid attention to car audio stuff, my favorite sub was the JL 10W6. In my super scientific test method of playing the song "Pillar of Davidson" by Live through subs crossed over at 100 Hz, it sounded the cleanest. But that was like four years ago and it has since been replaced by the 10W6v2 and who knows what that sounds like. But looking at JL is at least a good starting point.
What sort of system are you looking for: one that you can play at moderate volume and sounds nice and clean, or one that can rattle the fillings of the guy three lanes over on the highway while driving at 65 mph? What's your budget, how many subs are you going to be running, how big of a box do you want to have, and what kind of amp are you powering it with?
