If she just wants something to store a backup or moveable version on a laptop, just invest in a USB thumbdrive, cheaper and far more universal (you won't be able to plug the PCMCIA HD into anything without a PCMCIA slot obviously). If she just needs more storage on the laptop, just buy a bigger HD for the thing.
