I have 17 inch motegi mr 7's off a crx with a 2 inch drop and have never ever had a rim rub anything. Tires are 245/40/17 kumho's so I think those guys are right, the offset is probably to blame, I also have a camber kit and the wheels sit perfectly vertical if you look down the side of the car so if they were gonna rub then they would rub badly, and I took my car to schwabs to have it aligned on a computerized rack the day after it was dropped and cambered out (by me) so your drop isnt enough to cause the kind of trouble you are having just some thoughts.
