You really think of board length as the longer the board, the faster you will go but the harder it is to control jumps and spin. The average size board for your height/weigh, dom, is about a 159. Different manufacturers will have different measurements for your height/weight based on the weight and style of their boards. I've always loved Ride boards. I plan to get a Timeless this year since I'm finally out of the AL craphole and can do some good boarding here.

If I were you and you've never been before, I would rent for a while. It will give you a better understanding of the different manufacturers and their stylel of boards. The rental guys will be able to help you decide what will work best for you and that way you don't end up spending money on stuff you don't like.
