Default Oil Pans: Stamped vs. Cast.....

Okay, I have a stamped oil pan on my lude right now, but I stripped out the drain bolt threads & installed an oversized plug bolt temporarily. Today in the mail, I recieved a new oil pan I won on ebay, but it is a cast oil pan.... w/ a long crack (probly 6 inches long) in the very bottom of it, due to the previous owner hitting a speedbump or something. First question, Would it be wort it to take this pan to a welding shop & have them just run a bead over the crack on the inside of the pan? The metal hasn't seperated at all, but it's definately a hairline crack. Then, are there any advantages to a cast pan over a stamped? and lastly, what years of lude came from the factory w/ a cast pan?? 5th gens??
