Most ac/heat systems use a damper door that is operated by diaphragm driven by engine vacuum to redirect the airflow. Check to see if you have a loose vacuum hose. If the hose is attached to the diaphragm, remove it, compress the diaphragm and hold your finger over the top to see if it leaks down. If so, the diaphragm is ruptured and needs to be replaced.
