The problem with saying late is that if you stay past the time where the lab closes, the building manager gets on your case about him wanting to leave. So not only does that lab consultant have to stay late, but so does the building manager. Since we are student workers, we are only alloted a certain amount of hours per week we can work. If we go over, we get fired. That's no exageration. We have to be out the door by a certain time or we lose our job. It's part of the State of Wisconsin budget cuts crap. There is some grace period built into that, but not very much.
I agree that a student should be able to drop of a laptop at 7:59 if he wants to, but I also agree that I should be able to get out of there so I don't get fired. I have spoken to my supervisor about putting in writting about when you can and cannot bring the laptop back. It's just rediculous that he would wait EXACTLY 72 hours (to the minute) to return the laptop, to me that's pushing your luck. (Especially at $10 per hour)
The final straw was the attitude he gave me. He knew he was lying about the time that he brought the laptop back(obviously after 8PM) and blamed everything on us. I spoke to the consultant again this morning and he showed me that he punched out at exactly 8:01PM that night.
