4th Gen VTEC tranny swap
Swapping my tranny this weekend (now) and figured you guys would want to see some pics, etc.
'Foreword'
I swapped my h22a1 into my 92 Si prelude over 2 years ago. I decided to rebuilt the motor when i first bought it, since it supposedly had low mileage.
The rebuild went to plan and since then i have had 0 mechanical problems with the motor, i changed the timing belt and added a ACT clutch (among other things) at 40k. Since then i have had problems with my original tranny, ive pulled it about 3 times since then, bought a m2f4 tranny used which turned out to have a blown 2nd gear sychro. I found this out after swapping it in, so the next weekend i pulled it again and went back to my failing m2s4 (h23a1) tranny. I rebuilt the m2s4 for a few bucks mainly the bearings and i also used a few needle bearings and a 3rd gear synchro sleeve from the blown m2f4 tranny to keep my original tranny running.
The m2s4 (my original Si tranny) now has 231,000 miles on it and the differential carrier bearings decided to take a shit...so it is time for a newer tranny. I looked all over for the famed m2b4 JDM LSD equipped h22a tranny but couldnt find one for sale, its only available for extra charge when purchasing a complete swap. Now you guys are probably figuring that i picked up a m2a4/m2f4 h22a tranny...well i didnt...i prefer the slightly broader 3rd gear of the m2s4 (92-96 h23a1), i was able to get one with low miles that came off a JDM f22b non-vtec Prelude Si motor swap. Much to my surprise this tranny is actually stamped m2s4 even though the m2s4 is supposedly only a USDM tranny.
I started working today around 1pm, left at 3pm to go pick up a new ACT clutch, returned to working at 4pm, had the tranny sitting on the dolly by 6:30pm.
here are some pics right after i achieved today's objective which was to drop the blown tranny, tomorrow i will be hoisting the new m2s4 into place and hopefully it doesnt have any blown gears, etc.
