Will putting any HID H4 bulb in place of a halogen H4 bulb always suck, or is it just the 1200k color temperature we're talking about?

Reason I ask is because my Miata takes H4 bulbs but there's a very sharp cutoff to the top of the beam so I figure that as long as I use an actually functional color of bulb, HIDs would work nicely.
