Default Ignition wires

I just replaced the spark plugs (94 Integra) and noticed some carbon residue in wire 1 at the spark plug connection. I did my best to remove the most I could and reconnected all four wires to the spark plugs. In driving the car at cruising speed, I experience some jolting especially when pressing the gas pedal.

Does this mean that there is no current going to spark plug at cylinder 1 and thus no firing?

Could this be corrected by putting vaseline on the spark plug - wire contacts instead of igniter paste?
