Honda first stunned the world with the introduction of B16A in 1989. A mass-produced normally aspirated engine that hit the magic 100 hp/liter - 160 hp out of 1.6 liter of displacement. B16A has been the benchmark of 1.6 liter engines since then. As of today, you can pretty much classify B16A into four distinctive era. I am going to call them B16A G1, B16A G2, B16A G3, and B16B 98 SpecR.
B16A G1 - The original motor introduced in JDM 1989 Civic/CRX (EF body) and JDM 1989 Integra (DA body)
B16A G2 - From JDM 1992-1995 Civic (EG body)
B16A G3 - From JDM 1996+ Civic (EK body)
B16B - From the JDM 1997+ Civic Type-R

*** It seems that the above engines do not all have the same rocker arm ratio! That means the same cam will have different lift at valve depending on which rocker arm is used.

People always ask if parts are interchangeable between the above motors. The answer is yes on most parts (valves, valve springs, cams, rocker arm, crank, head). There are only few exceptions like all intake manifolds are interchangeable except B18C. The tranny's for the above motors will also bolt up to each other. But newer ones are hydralically operated while the older ones are cable.
