I personally have not changed the alternator in my or any 5th gen... as of yet.
If you loosen all the bolts first, the belt will become loose enough to remove the alternator... just pop all the bolts out, disconnect the wirring, swap the pulley from the old to the new... reinstall the new alternator and re-connect the wirring... make sure you tighten the belt too... this may require using a long pry bar against the alternator housing and then tighten the adjustment bolt, which is just one of the mounting bolts that is in a slotted hole. Be careful not to tighten the bolts too much, as you can strip the threads in the mounts.
