for a few reasons. One is because the insurance they have to pay is so high to stay in practice is insane because of the lawsuits that some have had against them make it a very tough job. Another reason is that it is a direct dig on Edwards who is a lawyer that made his hundreds of millions from frivolus lawsuits of OBGYN's and later on the lawsuits that he won were found to be won on a falsity and that the entire argument that he used was false an that the problems the children had was in no part due to the doctors.
Just to be balanced, I'd like to point out that it's widely acknowledged that Edwards' legal argument was based on the best medical information at the time (Until recently, asphyxia was believed to be the main cause of cerebral palsy, and this was attributed to poor treatment on the doctor's behalf... in all actuality, this accounts for 10% cerebral palsy cases), and that it took over a decade before this new medical knowledge came out. It wasn't as if he had argued this fact on the known pretense that he was deceiving the jury, but medicine had advanced and we now know better...
