DRfrank is mostly right. Just because you have more maxium torque doesnt really mean you have more torque. Using the HP formula in reverse you can clearly see that if your car has 130 hp at 5700 rpm your torque is only 119 ft lbs. But that 145 at 6000 is making 126 ft lbs. So in all actuallity the VTEC has more top end torque than the non VTEC and while that may not seem to be a big diffrence in the numbers, thats what alows the VTEC to pull on the non VTEC in every gear. Plus with vtec your mods increase your preformance more than with non vtec due to the bigger lobes on the cam shaft. However VTEC works in every gear you use it anytime you are above 4500 rpm. So as long as you keep your revs up you keep you hp up.

All the talk about auto and stick. This is all i have to say about that, I own two 90 model accord 4dr lx's. Both had i/e. My 5spd did have headers and it ran a 10.71 in the 1/8th mile(thats all we have down here). My auto (that i manualy shifted while in sport shifter mode)with stock exhust manafold ran a 10.89. I believe that most of the diffrence would have been made up if the auto had headers. When dealing with the F22A/b remember that it has a good amount of low end torque. So wither you have a manual or an auto its not going to make much diffrence.

That is not true for most cars. In fact i challnge one of you to race a 97-01 sport shifter prelude. If you have i/h/e you should be able to pull on that ss prelude a car and a half until the h22a hits VTEC then the prelude will come by you like you are sitting still. Then go race a 5spd prelude. If the person knows how to drive you wont ever have a chance, you will be seeing tail lights and smelling exhust fumes every time.

If all you have ever drivin was an SOHC accord the vtec makes little diffrence. But if you take the prelude two H series prelude engines. VTEC makes all the diffrence. The H23A non vtec which has higher max torque with 160 hp and 160 ft lbs of torque. When compared to the h22a Vtec which has lower torque 157 ft lbs but much higher HP 200. I bet you non vtec lovers would kill for an extra 40 hp. And the only real diffrence is vtec and displacment. Because you can put any part of an H22 on to an h23 and vice versa.

I finally broke down and pulled the F22A out and put in the the H22a VTEC w/h22 tranny in. All i can say is WOW. I dont know what it is. But i have only been beatin twice on the street. Once was by a older body turbo neon(not srt4), and he BARELY got me. The other was by a moded twin turbo supra (yeah that wasnt pretty). Im defintly not saying i have one of the fastest cars out there, far from it. Im sure there are plenty out there that could easily beat me but i just havent met them out on the street. But for an all engine 4 dr accord(CAI/H/CBE/reprogramed ecu/cam gears/underdrive pullys/ i went from running a 10.71@61mph to running 9.37@78mph. My gurl has a 97 grand prix SE 3800(3.8L V6 I/E) If riding side by side she punches it and i drop it at the same time, and i hit it at a place before im in vtec(reprogramed ecu makes VTEC hit at 5500 instead of 4500) We stay directly beside each other until i hit vtec. Then my car easily walks away (stressing easily). Its like hitin a 40 shot of nitrous through out the rest of the power ban. So in my book VTEC ALL THE WAY.

Kill list 2002 Crossfire, 98 mustang GT4.6, 88 mustang gt 5.0. 2003 Dodge ram 5.7 hemi, 93 Z28, 96 2dr blazer 4.3 I/H/E 100 shot nitrous (Very close we run almost the same times out at the track), 97 Grandprix SE I/E, Subru WRX (we raced from an 80 punch on the interstate), 2000 Grand AM GT, 98 eclipse GST, 95 eclipse non turbo DOHC RS CAI/H/CBE. 98 honda accord 3.0. 96 lexus sc 400. 97 Prelude I/E, 94 prelude H23A CAI/CBE, 2003 Nessan Sentra SE-R Spec-V I/E. 2003 civic Si I/CBE. 95 Civic HB B18c swap CAI/H/CBE and a bunch of other stuff(very VERY close but i still got him), 94 3000 GT non turbo, 90 300ZX non turbo, and another h22a accord (who i found out later had kept his accord tranny so if we continued he may have got me on the top end when my gear ran out if it wasnt governed at 120 like some of them are).
