actually the vtec in the f22b1 is used to create a slightly higher rpm and an extended torque band, allowing the 15 extra ponies at higher rpm's, max numbers are not the most important thing here.

hp=torque*rpm/5252 i think, meaning that as the rpm's get higher so does the horsepower, but not only that but the longer the torque band holds up at higher rpm the higher the hp rating will be

so the f22b2 is not really a better or worse engine at all for dragging, rather nearly the same engine with a higher peaking torque band rather than a constant one at higher rpm's

in other words vtec only makes a difference in the higher rpm range, which is rarely reeached in dragging due to gear shifts, by the time you get into your final gear you're at the end of the track (this is mainnly because of vtec kicking in only at 3k aswell)

or at least that's what i think....
