Some curious questions from a "friend" who is going to propose to his girlfriend very soon about engagement rings. Any and all input is appreciated.

1) What's a good range to spend? I've heard varying formulas on how to compute the price of the ring.

2) Aside from the obvious (Tiffany's), what are good places (online or store) or brands to look at?
