Used to be OBD1 was more tuning friendly because people developed to it. Now the options are wide open and OBD2 engines are just as easy to tune for fuel/air maps as an OBD1 engine.

Most the reasoning behind the OBD1 preference was simply convenience of the times...things change and from what I know it is actually a very strong platform to build on. I have OBD1 so I cannot attest to this fully but I have seen many kickass OBD2 based vehicles both in pro ranks and amateur level racing.
