Ultimately when I think an intake is worth it is when your engine starts having trouble breathing because its outgrowing the stock airbox.

I can definetly see hand in hand with your problem, I did the same thing when I first got my civic, but I mean if you really want signifigant gains your gonna have to save up some cash and be ordering parts here and there where you find deals and just put them on one weekend or something.

There are plenty of D series enthusiasts who are getting some awesome numbers out of those motors, its just more effort and money into an engine that has less potential then a DOHC motor.
