Moderators of the tech forums should have lifted a few wrenches and gotten a little dirty. Along with keeping the forum in line, they should have a good technical knowledge base. A knowledge base not only about products, but installs and maintenance work, and troubleshooting. They should have some practical experience working on things. When people aren't getting answers, they should be able to turn to a moderator. In my experience on web boards, members PM moderators to get the info they need.
