I am about to remove the PS from my 95 LS SE, to me it has too much assistance and is so light with no feedback.
You may want to consider leaving it as it is as you may not like it if you do refit it.
One thing about the steering rack, apparently the PS fluid is used to lubricate it, if you have no fluid going thru the rack at all then it could give you problems, you can make a T so the fluid goes back and forth, do a search.
