Whatever works for ya. For me tho, i don't like the idea of a clear mat covering the entire mat. So the little black "patch" works for me. Somehow it actually looks good to my eye, plus it leaves the majority of mat uncovered. That doesn't matter tho as far as getting dirty because it's where your feel rest that is the area that gets ruined. I don't mind some dirt and having to clean it. But with my civic mat i could still clean it till it looked new except where my feet rest. And there it's just worn out and the dirt is permanenty embedded. Thats all i'm trying to avoid, and thats the area the little mat covers.
