If you have to turn the wheel more then you didn't hit the apex. The only steering input should be unwinding after the apex. Still sounds like you're turning in too early. It's not easy, and even though I know what to do, I still have problems actually executing it.
Like RJ said, Evolution is $200, and worth it. Usually you can take phase II the next day, but you don't have to.
