Put simply, if two objects have mass, their is an attraction between them, and the one with greater mass seems to pull the lesser towards it. I think mars has like 40% of the gravity we have on earth. So if you weight 200 lbs on earth, you'll only appear to weigh 80lbs on mars...
Ehh...not exactly how gravity works at all.
I can't exactly explain it but I just had this discussion in a quantum physics discussion and I do remember this was not how it was explained at all.
