Humans colonizing Mars is a great idea on paper but if it were to happen I think some thought should be taken before starting it.

Unilateral support in funding such a project equally from all nations should be part of it. Trillions of dollars is not an easy number at all for any one nation to bear.

The major problem I see happening though is a war breaking out ver it because of what form of government should run the Mars colony. I am sure everyone will say democracy and think it is the best thing since sliced bread....but many nations do not feel that way and this alone could be the deal breaker causing a major war on earth.

Another issue is food source supplies for an entire colony. Seems to me we have a hard enough time feeding people here on earth already let alone sending it to Mars too. My idea is to send everyone to Mars leaving a relativley small number on earth to claim back entire cities as farm land to grow crops etc.

This would do a few things such as restore the earth to a more natural order as to air quality, and general balance of nature. Then when it was balanced people could be allowed back to earth with a much stricter air pollution control policy as well as housing development structure.

My single biggest problem with this is that we can't even manage the current planet we are on, what makes you think Mars is going to be any better or dfferent than earth in the end?
