I'm used to my Miata's shifter which is one of the best shifters period, so I'm biased. The shifter in the tC feels just like the shifters in the Corolla, Celica and Matrix, none of which are particularly pleasing to me regardless of the length of the throws.
The last time I drove a Mazda 3 was in like March so it's not really fresh in my mind.
Yes, the 5-speed is out of a Carolla S, too bad they didn't mate the 6-speed out of the Carolla XRS. :\ So I guess theres nothing particularly good about the shifter its simply generally shorter than what im used to driving.
And the Miata shifter is one of the best fo' sho'
