I think Nader accomplished a great deal with his book
Unsafe at Any Speed. He ended the era of Detroit's "devil-may-care attitude", which came to a head with the Corvair - which truly was a dangerous, ill-designed product.
And despite this, I simply cannot connect with his platform in the 21st Century.
He's way outside the political mainstream, and - for me - he's direly lacking in charisma. His cohorts, Claybrook and Ditlow are not my favorites either.
If you can't connect to your consitituents, there's little point in running at all.

Historically, 3rd party candidates - with the exception of H. Ross Perot - have not shown much skill in drawing a statistically significant number of votes.
So in short, no. He's certainly entitled to run for office, but he's always been a longshot.
