in my experience, vw makes a very good car.

my gf has a 99 jetta GL and it hasnt given her any trouble.

her dad has a 92 passat 2.0 wagon and it has something like 215k or 220k and he still drives it... its lost a little bit of compression over the years but nothing that shouldnt be expected for a high mile older car.
