There are clips that have to be released from the inside of the doors -- very carefully. And there is adhesive tape that has to be removed and replaced as well. I'd only take them off to paint them
professionally (i.e. properly blended & automotive paint, applied by airgun, etc.)
If you've got the equipment to do it right, you can save a decent amount of money...
