Newport News Police Questioning Man in Friday Afternoon Credit Union Robbery
A man is being questioned by Newport News police in connection with the Friday afternoon robbery of the 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union.
Officials say an armed male suspect entered the bank in the 12,800 block of Jefferson Avenue around 12:40pm.
He approached a teller and demanded money. The teller complied and gave the man an undisclosed amount of currency and the man left the bank on foot.
Police say there were a large number of customers and employees in the credit union at the time of the robbery, but that no one was injured.
Shortly after the robbery, an officer on patrol noticed a man that matched the description of the suspect just a short distance from the credit union. After making eye contact, officials say the suspect ran off and was pursued by the officer.
He was quickly taken into custody in the 12800 block of Jefferson Avenue.
The suspect is still being questioned at this time and has yet to be formally charged
