Relic1....thanks for all that info....I have only had the car for 2 weeks (I haven't licenced it yet as it has to pass a few inspections here in Canada & I am waiting for the SRS system to be re-installed) but yes it has ran rich since I started it for the first time....the previous owner says it has always done that since the B16A was put in (and I am assuming the ecu at the same time)....and it never backfired before the B16A either.....so u figure the ecu chip is the prob, rather than the exhaust (cat converter)

it's probibly the chip then, all though the extra fuel could have eaten it's way through the cat and caused it to clog....
I'd swap in a different chip and see what happens. It's the cheapest potential solution, and it will make you happier in the long run anyway.
BTW swapping chips really is that simple, I used to do it three to four times a week prior to getting my hondata. just becareful to not bend any of the pins on the prom.
