I wash my car and after drying it I'd use a quick detailer, Meguiars has worked well for me. The reason I'd wash it first is cause when the water is drying on your car, it attracts dust/dirt and you wouldn't want to rub that stuff into your paint.
Yeah, if the car's too dirty then of course, rewash it. If you just washed it, and it rains, and right after, well, then you can use a QD and dry it off.
