In other cultures its also still a fact of life. The family and friends and neighbors gather around to help the new mother or the sick person in their time of need. In the US most people say "it's their f'ing problem, they should have planned for it". Well now Big Brother has to step in and force us to do whats right...again.
If your living paycheck to paycheck whats really going to change after the person has had the kid and has exhausted the family leave program? What's really changed nothing.
Families that have kids already get tax credits a single person could only dream of. This country was founded on trying to avoid TAX yet we create new ones every day for social programs
