Ok wow, lots of talk about the Elise.
All I said was, Elise isnt even street legal in the USA., and I was correct. Moving on, I really dont understand why Toyota and Mazda underpower the MR-S and Miata. I mean, why cant Toyota shove celica GT-S engine (and six speed
in their and charge and extra money? Makes no sense to me. I know they handle great, etc etc, but more power wont hurt.
A bigger engine wouldn't hurt either car. The MR2 certainly wouldn't have a problem with having a heavier engine given it's MR layout, but they have tight quarters to work with. The Miata would become nose heavy with a V-6 or a heavier I-4, at least without a complete redesign.
The next Miata is likely to get a new 4-cylinder engine, and I imagine the MR2 will find the Celica GT-S engine under a TRD label sooner or later when demand dies down. But for right now, at least around here, Toyota dealerships can't keep the MR2 in stock.
Besides, these cars aren't about raw horsepower. They're cheap toys...maybe if they were double their price, your complaint would be in it's right place.
