pretty good gains if you ask me
one of the things I've always wondered is whether or not the car Import Tuner (or X magazine) is using (remember, parts and the car's time is usually donated), has been set-up with an aftermarket ecu. It wouldn't be a lie to setup a car with a different brain, dyno it and present it as a car with 'such-and-such'. They told you what it had. They don't tell you what it DOESN'T have.

If you look at the relationships magazines have with product manufacturer's who buy ad time...has there EVER been a time when something was presented with a negative overall 'official' magazine opinion? Perhaps not so much lately with SCC (since they've gotten so big now) but smaller mags like Import Tuner and Super Street...well...there's always an agenda when it comes to advertising and DOLLARS.

I sometimes find numbers like these "dyno" numbers hard to believe...especially when OBD II Hondas are presented as making as much gains as their OBD I brothers (i.e. same kind of general engine config...etc.)

Anyway, here's that OBD II thread I wrote-in a while back...see some who put on intake and got JACK **** for RESULTS. Of course, your results may vary...

fyi: somebody else's scientific post in an IS300 (Inline 6 ,215 hp, auto)

Please excuse this extremely long post:
I installed my Rod Millen Motorsports (RMM) Intake system today and i also installed a 75hp NOS wet system. I went to Moroso Raceway tonight to see what the improvements would be and here they are. First are my results from when i took my stock IS300 to the Moroso Raceway 2 weeks ago
when the car was completely stock.
1st run:
launched at 2000rpm
60'---2.357
1/8---10.294
1/4---15.893
MPH---86.23
2nd run: lauched at 2500rpm and took out the air filter.
60'---2.333
1/8---10.219
1/4---15.817
MPH---86.72

3rd run: lauched at 2500rpm wo/air filter and lowered the tire pressure to 23lbs.
60'---2.328
1/8---10.234
1/4---15.803
MPH---86.68

Now that i have installed my RMM Intake system i can honestly tell you that i looks fantastic!!! Nice sound to the engine when give throttle....BUT.... i could tell from the get go that the car was noticably slower on the low end. Felt as if was loading up.
I thought that i might just be my imagination but my fears were confirmed at the track.
Here are my first 2 runs:
1st run: Launched at 2500 rpm with the track off and the ETC power on.
60'---2.436
1/8---10.604
1/4---16.298
MPH---87.04
(as you can see i lost .495 which is almost 1/2 seconds slower than my best time 2 weeks earlier but gained .32 in MPH)
I thought that maybe i did something wrong so i check my notes and ran the car a second time to confirm:
2nd run: launched at 2500 rpm again with the track off and the ETC power on.
60'---2.457
1/8---10.571
1/4---16.248
MPH---85.81
I could not believe my f@#%ing eyes!!!!
I lost .445 seconds in the 1/4 mile.
The car felt so slow at the launch... i could tell it was not good. The car really started to excelerate hard high into 3rd gear. To me the air sensor is telling the computer that its getting most air and it either sending more fuel or retarding the trottle???? i am at a loss!

I thought to myself that at this point lets make a run with the NOS. NOS jets: fuel #37 NOS #45
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1st run: launched at 2500 rpm with the track off and the ETC power on. I hit the NOS once i launched off the line so i would avoid tire spin. I had no tire spin at all.
60'---2.282
1/8---9.615
1/4---14.786
MPH---95.17
Holy ****!!! i gained 1.422 second that almost 1 1/2 seconds off my best time of the night and gained 8.13 MPH!! Very impressive.
2nd run: all the same as above:
60'---2.304
1/8---9.648
1/4---14.819
MPH---96.43
This time i felt the car studder at the top of 2nd gear.. but then hit hard again. Thie 1/4 mile is a little slower than the 1st run but my MPH was better.
3rd and last run: Launched at 3000 rpm with the track off and the ETC power on and i decided to hit the NOS button right at launch. The car took off like a rocket with only a little tire spin.
60'---2.230
1/8---9.449
1/4---14.723
MPH---90.33
As you can see all my times were better except my MPH...i had to let off the NOS at in the middle of 4th gear as the car started to fall flat and studder. I think this might be from a lack of fuel at the top end.

I am very disappointed with the RMM Intakes performance... i lost almost 1/2 seconds in the quarter mile. I spoke to other IS300 owners who have the exact same feeling of the RMM's performance. I think the RMM Intake looks fantastic and sound great but i would rather have performance.

I can't figure out why the car has slowed down with just the RMM intake?? When i hit the NOS it feels as its starving for fuel..so if i lean it out stock i will be even worse on the NOS!??? what to do??
Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to re-install my stock intake and install the NOS into that and give the track another few round and keep you all up to date.
