SAN DIEGO – A man was found shot dead under a stairwell at a Bay Terraces apartment complex today, San Diego police said.

Officers responded to a call that four shots were fired in the 2900 block of Alta View Drive just before 1:30 a.m., said Lt. Kevin Rooney of the police department's Homicide Unit.

They found the man's body under a stairwell at the two-story apartment complex, Rooney said.

The victim has been identified, but his name was withheld pending family notification, Rooney said.

An autopsy may be done tomorrow, according to an investigator from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined, Rooney said, and no arrests were made.
