The recall affects vehicles made from January 15 to October 29 last year, the Japanese automaker's joint-venture company said in a statement on its Web site. Honda makes the Accord sedan in a joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group.

The venture will check for welding cracks in the sedans' fuel tanks and repair faults, the statement said. There have been no incidents relating to the problems with the fuel tanks, it said.

The move comes after Mazda Motor Corp., Japan's fourth- biggest automaker by sales, said it will recall 130,500 sedans in overseas markets, also to fix defective fuel tanks. The figure includes 38,000 vehicles in China.
