entire A/C system, most likely a new compressor, a new dryer, all new seals, and a charge. Count on $500 or more for all the stuff, and a proper installation.
A/C is not cheap to install or fix. In all of the cars I've owned, if the A/C is broken, I'll rip it all out. I don't want to mess with leaky seals, bad compressors and expensive freon. The 50 pounds off and less parasitic drag just happens to be a nice side effect of the removal.
I've gone through two Virginia summers (hot and very humid) in a black car with a grey leather interior. Hell, I haven't had a car with working A/C in the past... four years now.
