I have always followed Kharmic rule.

I only treat people as kindly as they treat me.
I also treat people the same as I expect to be treated.
If I can help someone out within reason then I do.
If a person is trying to use my kindness as weakness I eliminate them from my friendship.

Its not BS at all and I am not Hindu at all...its just a good basic rule to live by and if more people did then things would be a lot better than they are.
