not sure about your other questions, but as far as the springs go, they last. Even crappy brands last. Its hard to screw up a spring
however, half an inch isn't much of a drop. Tein S-techs or something similar (1.7" drop) give a nice profile, minimal wheel gap, and still give you a good amount of clearence. And you can get those Tein's (they're quality) for about $125 on ebay.
