The Hondata does have 'hidden' charges, or charges that you really don't think about. You buy the chip, you have to have it soldered onto your ECU (charge). The unit comes with a basemap that is only an educated guess as to what your fuel/timing maps need to be for you to drive the car to a tuner. You need to get the unit tuned from the basemap (charge). If you want to have an authorized tuner do it, then you have to pay their fees, if not, you have to buy the ROM editor, pocket progammer, etc. (charges).

The SAFC is more simplistic and uses your ECU for the majority of the necessary tuning. You can always remove the SAFC and go back to using your stock ECU settings. The Hondata is a 'no turning back' way to go. Once you've had the chip soldered on, you're committed.
